It is extremely disappointing to witness the lack of consideration that the Fishers Health Department afforded to Communities of Faith in Fishers. The Indiana State Department of Health took great efforts to ensure that houses of worship were provided appropriate protections from orders, mandates and regulations. The carefully crafted language in the Indiana Executive Orders made certain that people could continue to worship while taking reasonable precautions to slow the spread of disease. Mayor Fadness and the Fishers Health Department provided no such protection in the hastily prepared mandates and reactive public health orders. In fact, they took it even farther as they sought to enact fines into city ordinances that caused great concerns for churches. The Indiana State Department of Health and the Hamilton County Health Department provide all the services required by residents of Fishers – without the threat of fines and mandates directed at those who choose to worship.
